How to find out how many characters are in the key? Again about the thermometer of tonalities ...

In general, the number of key signs and the actual signs themselves (sharps with flattenes) must be simply remembered and simply known. Sooner or later they are remembered automatically - whether you like it or not. And at the initial stage, you can use a variety of cribs. One of these cribs on solfeggio is a thermometer of tonalities.

I have already told you about the thermometer of tonalities - you can read and see a chic colorful thermometer of tonalities here. In the last article, I talked about how using this scheme you can easily identify signs in the keys of the same name (that is, those in which the tonic is the same and the mode is different: for example, in A major and A minor).

In addition, the thermometer is convenient in cases where you need to accurately and quickly determine: how many characters one tone is removed from the other, how many characters differ two tones.

Now I hasten to inform you that there was one more thermometer practical use. If this same thermometer is a little bit to modernize, then it will become more visual and show not only how many signs in tonality, but also specifically, what signs are in that major and that minor. I'll explain everything now.

The usual thermometer of tonalities: will show a wrapper, but it will not give yum ...

In the picture you see a thermometer as it usually appears in the textbook: a “degree” scale with the number of signs, and next to it are written the tonalities (the major and parallel to its minor one - they have the same number of sharps or flat).

How to use such a thermometer? If you know the order of the sharps and the order of the flat, then there are no problems: just look at the number of characters and count in order exactly as much as you need. Say, in A major, there are three signs - three sharp: it is immediately clear that in A major, before and salt are sharp.

But if you still don’t remember the rows of sharps and flat, then what to say, such a thermometer will not help you: it will show a candy wrapper (the number of characters), but will not give candy to it (it will not name specific sharp and flat).

New thermometer tonalities: distributes "candy" just like Grandfather Frost

To the scale with the number of characters, I decided to "stick" another scale, which I would call all the sharps and flat in their order. In the upper half of the degree scale, all the sharps are highlighted in red - from 1 to 7 (fa to g re la mi si), in the lower half, in blue, all flatulls are highlighted - also from 1 to 7 (si mily real sol to fa) . In the center - "zero tones", that is, tones without key signs - this is, as you know, in C major and A minor.

How to use? Very simple! Find the right key: for example, in F sharp major. Next, we count and call all the signs in a row, starting from zero, rising up until we reach a mark that corresponds to a given tonality. That is, in this case, before we again return with our eyes to the already found in F-sharp major, we will call in order all his 6 sharps: F, C, G, D, and L!

Or another example: you need to find the signs in the key in A flat major. We have this tonality among the "flat" - we find it and, starting from zero, going down, we call all its flat, and there are 4 of them: si, mi, la and re! Brilliant! =)

Yes, by the way, if you are already tired of using all kinds of cheat sheets, you can not use them, but read an article on how to remember key signs, after which you will not forget the signs in the keys, even if you specifically try to get them out of your head! Good luck!
